Where did “Just” go wrong?

Once upon a time, there was a word which traveled with great dignity, almost always arriving, and with exactness. Where did that word go?

Now, I have many verbal igniters, the most recent would be, JUST. We have taken a word that had precise measurement and dignity and transformed it into less. I hear college students explaining, they are “just going to community college”, hard working individuals who, “just work in fast food”, home owners who, “just live in Cleveland”, and athletes who, “just walk the 5Ks”.

When did this begin and why do we accept it? Why do we let others whomever they may be dictate our path. Whether, on the side of speaker or listener why do we just accept this? Our words are powerful because they stem from our thoughts. Let us do better by not simplifying our life or the life of others. If we are on the side of looking for others approval by “justing” well stop. The approval for your existence must come from yourself.

I consider myself a life long learner. I believe that only with education and travel is one able to move forward. Each day we should place ourselves in an opportunity to teach and to learn.

  1. Hello, first of all I want to thank you for your invite, and sorry for taking so long to respond. I found myself using “JUST ” about what I do for a living and some one who think at your level and that person corrected me, and told me your no “JUST” everyone can’t do what you do. I’m married to a person who is a not “JUST” and for that I felt ashamed because she have never made me feel like a” JUST” . She is a awesome person and I can not imagine being with anyone else because she give my life meaning.

    1. I believe that with motivational speakers and the media influences that teach how the grass is greener or teach we are to never to be satisfied with ourselves and be clawing and scratching for more. With that being said it is where it also promote to not think about about it and “just do it” as in the famous Nike saying for the popular athletic clothing states for athletes to absorb.

  2. Just I think comes in stages in peoples lives. In that I mean when we aren’t moving forward, discoving or having become stagnent in our own lives we becone in a just state of mind. So, some people do need approval from others, but then others can do it on their own and move on. That leads us to think, “Am i a person that needs others approval or am I someone that needs my own approval?”

  3. What a nice reminder to put value in what we have achieved and what we are working on as well as meeting other people where they are. I think its important to continue to strive to be better in every way. But its also important to recognize the journey we took to get to where we are today and take pride in that. If we minimize our own worth, so will everyone else!
